Legislative Advocacy Fellowship

Universal Healthcare Legislative Advocacy Fellowship

The New York Metro Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program is pleased to announce an eight-month fellowship around legislative advocacy.  The fellowship is directed towards healthcare professionals and students who are interested in participating in advocacy and activism.  While this fellowship will focus on advocating for universal healthcare, and particularly the New York Health Act, the curriculum is structured so as to develop functional skills that are transferable to other major issues.

The fellowship will consist of monthly didactic training with topics ranging from Albany’s legislative structure to effective meeting facilitation. In addition, each month will have a short practical component, to be reviewed as a group. Participants will be expected to contribute an average of 3 hours per month from October 2022 - May 2023. Participants will also be responsible for coordinating Lobby Day meetings with their regional legislators in March 2023 as part of a practicum. We welcome all students and a broad variety of healthcare professionals as we strive to create an inter-disciplinary inaugural cohort. Deadline to apply is September 26. Any questions about the fellowship or this application can be directed to [email protected]
